The Posada is on the Southern side of the Gredos mountains in an area where many activities are offered.  Walking, hiking, birdwatching or just enjoying nature in general. In summer, swimming in the naturally formed rock pools of the many rivers is an absolute pleasure.

This privileged area of Candeleda and the Valle de la Vera enjoys a special  climate that favours the growth of Mediterranean plants such as palms, bougainvilleas, kiwis, etc. It is also one of the principal tobacco growing areas in Europe. All this with the backdrop of the Sierra de Gredos peaks which are covered in snow in the Winter months.

Birds such as bee eaters, red kites, storks, hoopoes and owls are commonly seen at the Posada, and many more can be found in the surrounding area, such as water foul at the Rosarito reservoir only a fifteen minute drive away.

Very often one can also see the local mountain goats, though they are shy and well camouflaged.

Large old oak trees surround the house, and tall alders grow along the stream that runs through the property. On the Southern side of the house a large terrace is shaded by three ancient vines, overlooking the slopes planted with orange trees, various fruit trees, olive trees  and a plantation of  fig trees. Our vegetable garden produce is included in the menus whenever possible.
